Research

I work within critical dance studies as a widely construed field, combining historical research, critical theory, cultural studies and practice-based perspectives on historiographic knowledge. I am interested in the periphery as a space of epistemic grounding and in questioning the notion of (dance) modernity in both macro- and micro-historical frameworks. An over-reaching concern underlying my work has been to identify the impact of Enlightenment thinking on dominant dance ideology and seek ways of undoing it. This is slowly morphing into questioning how violence can be perpetrated through aesthetics.
